Tailoring//Spring 2017

This project involved the exploration of traditional and modern tailoring techniques, and how to apply them in a classic tailored garment. The goal was to focus on the advanced construction techniques – both traditional hand and fusible techniques – required to create a classic, menswear inspired blazer. The final garment is made out of 100% wool, with a full lining made of silk.

  1. Identify and execute tailoring techniques using a variety of stabilizers and hand-stitching, machine-stitching, and fusing methods.
  2. Analyze the benefits and costs of each technique, and discuss their influence on production processes and manufacturing constraints.
  3. Discuss the history of tailoring and the development of various techniques, as related to the emergence of new materials and manufacturing processes.
  4. Research historical and contemporary tailored clothing details and apply this research to personalize a tailored blazer pattern.
