This project involved the exploration of traditional and modern tailoring techniques, and how to apply them in a classic tailored garment. The goal was to focus on the advanced construction techniques – both traditional hand and fusible techniques – required to create a classic, menswear inspired blazer. The final garment is made out of 100% wool, with a full lining made of silk.
- Identify and execute tailoring techniques using a variety of stabilizers and hand-stitching, machine-stitching, and fusing methods.
- Analyze the benefits and costs of each technique, and discuss their influence on production processes and manufacturing constraints.
- Discuss the history of tailoring and the development of various techniques, as related to the emergence of new materials and manufacturing processes.
- Research historical and contemporary tailored clothing details and apply this research to personalize a tailored blazer pattern.
